Bali Indonesia
The island of the gods, Bali, Indonesia. Known for its forested volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, and beautiful beaches. Also known for it’s world class surf breaks and razor sharp reefs. I was humbled, by the power of the ocean in the south, and found my comfort in the north. We rented a scooter as you do, and road tripped north along the not so confident inspiring highway of death. We found an escape from the tourism and the crowds in the water, to a quiet little town in the predominantly Muslim part of the island. We awoke to the sounds of the call to prayer each morning around 5:30am from the neighbouring mosque, an indication that the sun was about to rise, and therefore time to paddle out.
I loved the culture. Both the Hindu and Muslim parts fascinated me. The incredible colours of the tropical flowers, the lingering scent of Frangipanies in the air. The volcanoes in the distance, and aqua blue water in the south. The friendliness of the local people. The food and fresh juices. The comedy of the Balinese traffic. The incredible stone and wood work seen in temples, or any average door. The monkeys. The list goes on.
I’ll keep this one short and sweet. Here’s a little peek into our trip from the fall.
