Pemberton Elopement | Whitney & Weijia

2020, the year the world threw a curve ball. Amidst the chaos, this beautiful Pemberton elopement came to be.

It’s a narrative that most couples who were planning weddings had. To postpone, or pivot. Whitney & Weijia, like so many, had their dream wedding planned. They were meant to get married surrounded by mountains in the European Alps. With travel being halted around the globe, these two decided not to wait, and to elope in a small ceremony back in Toronto, with 2 witnesses, and their officiant. At the time, 5 people was all that was allowed.

Although their plans were forced to change, W & W decided to celebrate in their own way. They came to Whistler for a few nights after visiting family in the city. Whitney booked hair and makeup with the talented Kerry Waring, and ordered a beautiful bouquet from Senka Florist. They finally got to wear their wedding attire. A beautiful dress from a local Toronto designer, Catherine Langlois, and a fitted blue suit from Harry Rosen.

We met at One Mile Lake in Pemberton. While waiting for them to arrive, it was absolutely down pouring rain. Just as they pulled in, the rain started to ease, and within 10 minutes, it was calm and the clouds began to lift. Luck was on our side. We started with portraits along the boardwalk, taking advantage of the autumn colours, the stillness and reflections of the lake.

We drove to a second location after, to take advantage of the always impressive Mt. Currie, which had a fresh blanket of snow. It may not be the Alps, but it’s a pretty amazing spot when you are forced to pivot. Here, these two read personal vows to each other. Although technically married, this was their true elopement celebration. W & W had their first dance to Elvis Presley’s, ‘I can’t stop falling in love’ as the sun began to set. After, they ordered take out to eat in their hotel room, with a bottle of red. A low key, perfectly them, kind of evening.

What an incredible few hours, in the perfect setting for this stunning Pemberton elopement.
