Whistler Winter Wedding | Nicky & Ben

Blogging this gorgeous Whistler winter wedding from last March is one that’s been on my to do list for some time. And what better time to post it, then right as this arctic flow hits the BC coast.

This winter wedding, held at The Roundhouse Lodge on top of Whistler mountain, was nothing short of amazing.

I met with Nicky and Ben in the winter of 2020, a month before their wedding was meant to take place here in Whistler. A sneaky little bug we all know too much about hit the world by surprise shortly after, closing down our little mountain town, and the rest of the world following suit not long after. We stayed optimistic that after 2 weeks we’d be re-open, but we all know what happened after that.

These two were so patient, so kind. After waiting a year, and things not looking any better for having a party like they wanted, let alone the borders being opened, these two had an intimate ceremony in a Catholic Church back in Seattle with their closest family members. They didn’t want to wait anymore. But that didn’t mean they weren’t going to throw that party when the opportunity arose. And so, at the end of March last year, with restrictions lifting a few weeks prior to their third wedding date, these two were able to throw their party.

Nicky didn’t think Ben would have much of a reaction to seeing her at their first look, given he’d seen her in her dress already, and that they were already married. But that really wasn’t the case. Ben shed tears, and so did she. I think the 2 year wait, and getting to have the wedding they always dreamed, over joyed them that day. They shared personal vows in front of all their people on the patio at the Westin Hotel. To follow, all the guests loaded the Whistler Gondola, where they were surprised with a glass of Champagne, and canapés at mid-station. It was windy and snowing up top as we were getting a few more wedding party photos. And just as I sent them all inside, the clouds started to part ways, revealing the gorgeous mountains that had been covered by clouds all day. We didn’t get the epic sunset we were hoping for, but it was stunning no matter.

Their wedding reception at the Roundhouse Lodge was gorgeous. And the party that followed was an absolute blast. After dealing with restrictions for far too long, it was such a joy to be able to watch everyone unleash on the dance floor. As everyone went to download back down to the gondola, we were all treated with a cozy blanket and a hot chocolate. These two had thought of all the things to make the journey up to the top of Whistler mountain, a really special experience. Nicky and Ben, I thank you for being you.
