SLCC Whistler Wedding | Emily & Jake

I’ve never blogged a SLCC Whistler wedding before. Why?! Who knows!

If you’ve never been to The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, aka the SLCC, you are missing out. This beautiful wedding venue, is first and foremost, a centre created to showcase the histories and cultures of the two First Nations communities that lived within the Whistler area. The Sk̲wx̲wú7mesh Úxumixw and the L̓il̓wat7úl people. If you haven’t gone and experienced it, I highly suggest you do.

It is a truly beautiful building, situated in the heart of Whistler, surrounded by forest, and mountain peaks. It’s very clear as to why it became such a popular wedding venue.

As the story continuously goes over these past few years, Emily and Jake’s plans had to be changed several times to abide the ever changing rules around weddings due to COVID. Given that anything indoors meant masks had to be worn, these two pivoted their plans to host the entire event out back, on the Mezzanine. That way, they were able to mingle outside, as well as throw down a mean dance party to the sweet jams of the favourite local band, The Hairfarmers. You know what I miss documenting? The party. I friggin’ love a good party.

I really just want to give a giant shout out to all wedding planners. Cailey of Blue Violet Events was Emily and Jake’s planner, and having to constantly re-plan and shift these events, as they follow public health orders, is so much work. I don’t think people really have a grasp as to what every new restriction, actually does for their jobs. Every wedding that gets postponed, is essentially being re-planned all over again. It adds so much work to their already jam packed rosters. They have gracefully followed all the ever changing rules, doing what they can, to ensure couples are still able to celebrate with their loved ones. I really hope they know how appreciated they are, not only from couples, but vendors too.
