Pemberton Adventure Elopement | Krista & Adam
At the tail end of a busy wedding season, getting to partake in this Pemberton Adventure Elopement was just what I needed to fill my cup. Krista & Adam wanted to do something different for their wedding. After finding some great hiking elopement inspiration, and hiking being something they do together often, they decided that making an adventure out of their day felt like them. After discussing their vision, we brainstormed some ideas of a hike that gets you up in the mountains relatively quickly. After all, hiking 8 hours is a lot of work, especially when carrying your wedding attire on your back and trying to limit how sweaty you get. We found an absolutely perfect hike to the always beautiful Semaphore Lakes.
For the legal parts, these two had a ceremony in front of a raging creek, nestled in a mossy forest at their beautiful Air B&B. I chose to leave that section of the day out, to shorten the length of this post. But it was really pretty too!
Then we drove the 1 + hours to the trail head. We were playing with fire leading up to this day, both figuratively and literally. The Downton Lake Wildfire just north of where we had been planning to make this day happen, had shut down the access road. And wildfires were burning all around the area. After creating a solid Plan B adventure, to our luck, the road opened a day before their wedding.
After a relatively short hike (1+ hours), we made it to the first lake, where we all cooled down with a beer. Then Krista and Adam changed into their wedding attire. Her hair was done in a updo for their legal ceremony, but was done in a way we could let it down for the adventure portion.
I had scouted the area a year prior to get a pretty good grasp of when the sun drops below the mountain. Knowing when the optimal light was, we scurried along to our chosen spot for them to read their personal vows in the most magical place. This was the ceremony they dreamed of…. just them, the mountains, and of course myself and their videographer. Given that the road had only just opened, there was next to no one there. We bumped into one solo hiker, and saw 2 others from afar. Such a rarity to have the place all to yourselves in this day of age.
As we walked back, we stopped to do their first dance and of course pop a bottle of bubbly before making our way back down the trail. Can I just say what an absolute legend Adam was. Not only did the two of them create snack packs for us, but he lugged those, the beers, and a bottle of bubbles with glasses for all 4 of us. What a guy!
Why did this one fill my cup? I love a good adventure. I also love to take photos of landscapes but with a human element to them. After a long and busy season, getting to break out of the norm and do something a bit different was just what I needed. Hiking elopements… I kinda love them!
