Oak Bay Backyard Wedding, Victoria | Robyn & Louis
Back in June, I photographed a beautiful Oak Bay backyard wedding in Victoria, close to where I grew up. Here is how I remember this day.
These two have a unique thing going on. Their first date was a trip to New Zealand. Robyn had been crushing on Louis hard, and was planning a trip. She invited him along. This is where they rented a van, toured around the epic country of NZ, and ultimately had the greatest first date of all time.
These two are huge crib players. My partner and I are too, but these guys take it to a whole new level. They keep a tally of games played, and the first to win a 100, gets taken out to dinner, in a different country, flights included. Needless to say, Robyn is taking Louis for dinner… in Japan. I think I might need to steal this idea! They even incorporated part of the game into their ceremony. They cut a card deck to see who would read their vows first. Kudos guys, kudos.
There was a lot I loved about this day… a lot! Louis had a fun and colourful shirt under his grey suit, to add a pop of colour to his outfit. It was pretty on point. Robynʼs dress was made none other than her fabulous sister Cami Rush. If you donʼt know Robyn and Camiʼs bikini line Fenntessa, you should. I have purchased and worn pretty much only their bikiniʼs since they came out. Back to the dress. Simple, elegant, very beachy vibe, which if you know the Rush sisters, is incredibly fitting. There was a little secret behind that dress, and it actually had a tear away panel (remember those awful pants?). When they made their grand entrance in after the ceremony, Louis ripped the panel off turning her wedding dress into a super sexy party dress. AMAZING!
The ceremony took place up Anderson Hill in Oak Bay. A beautiful location, where the guests sat down on blankets among the rocks, giving it a very relaxed picnic vibe kind of feel. The reception, which actually began before the ceremony (which is awesome), was held in Robynʼs parents backyard. This yard is a stunner. Full of peonies, rhododendrons, and a full veggie garden out the back. There was tequila bar, tacos being served up for dinner, delicious appetizers, pie, oh so much pie. A live band entertained the crowd, and got one hell of a dance party going on.
