Kealy & Cary | Fraser River Lodge Wedding, Aggasiz
I met Kealy and Cary a few years back at a wedding I was photographing on Vancouver Island. Kealy was in the bridal party, and Cary, was her fairly new boyfriend at the time. Fast forward 3 years, and I had the opportunity and honour to photograph their engagement photos as well their Fraser River Lodge wedding, in Agassiz.
As a Whistler wedding photographer, I always love the opportunity to work at a new to me venue, in a different location. Agassiz reminded me of Pemberton in a way. A farming community surrounded by the beauty of mountains.
The celebrations took place on the Thursday of the Thanksgiving weekend, at the Fraser River Lodge. A beautiful venue on 10 acres, along the river with a stunning mountain backdrop, and Bison roaming the fields. We could not have lucked out more with the weather, sunny and warm with not a cloud in the sky.
What I really loved was how they let me roll with my vision. They agreed to doing their portraits at sunset, which was amazing considering at that time in October, the sun was setting at 6:30ish, right as dinner was being served. We were all plating our food, when I looked out and noticed the light was just as I was hoping for. We put down our plates and left for the field, and I’m so happy we did. I rarely get that low golden hour sun in Whistler. I’d take 20 minutes of portraits with good light, vs an hour with high overhead sun any day.
The speeches were highly entertaining and incredibly comical. Their first dance was to Neil Young’s ‘Harvest Moon’, which was perfect considering it was a harvest moon. A killer dance party to finish the night, with lots of laughter and all around great vibes.
Thank you Kealy and Cary for being wonderful people to work with. So thankful to have been apart.
Thank you to my awesome sauce second shooter Melanie Orr Photography for all your help.
